National aviation leaders are now amplifying what we’ve been saying: Whiteman Airport is federally obligated to remain open.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), one of the most influential aviation organizations in the country, has elevated this issue and reinforced the FAA’s position that the airport cannot be closed at the discretion of local officials due to its federal obligations.

What began as a local effort is now drawing national attention and recognition that this is not simply a policy debate, but a matter of federal law and long-standing aviation commitments.

As the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors continues to study the future of Whiteman Airport, this federal reality must be taken into account.

Local Support

Just as importantly, the community is engaged and supportive. In recent canvassing, residents across the surrounding neighborhoods expressed clear support for keeping the airport open. Many people told us they felt their voices had not been heard thus far in the process.
